Red Wing is sponsoring the Digital Planet Technology Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 pm on October 28 at the Red Wing High School. The goal is provide education on broadband and demonstrate how broadband can have a positive influence in our everyday lives.

The conference will include a keynote presentation by James Farstad, Founder and President, rClient, LLC, a trade show of local vendors, and workshops on variety of technology topics, including Google U computer internet lab, internet security for all ages, gaming, handheld mobile access, and using the Internet to promote your business.  

The fair is free and there will be a raffle for a laptop computer, an I-pod and cell phone.

Red Wing is holding a large meeting of community leaders on October 4 to discuss committee activities. A number of subcommittees have been working on presentations and events to raise awareness of broadband in Red Wing. 

Also, Red Wing Connect has created a new logo and a website (work in progress) at  www.redwingconnect.com.

The Edge of the Wilderness has the following objectives:

  • Implement cooperative advertising and promotion of area Broadband opportunities - Cooperative advertising and promotion of Broadband benefits (Print and Web Promotion)
  • Partnership with the Marcell Family Center on computer classes related to Broadband
  • Partnership with the Marcell Family Center on improving and expanding its public computer room that has a Broadband Connection for the public to utilize
  • 1 Technology Fair within the Edge of the Wilderness
  • Computer for Effie Community Center with Broadband Connections; make it available for public use
  • Pilot projects for new or existing businesses to get broadband and/or networking capabilities; Reduced connection and equipment fees for a certain number of new broadband customers
  • Get Broadband Program Coordination and Administration
