Benton County - The objective of Get Broadband in Benton County is to increase awareness of the benefits of high speed Internet and what it can do for you and your business. Foley’s senior community is very interested in setting up email accounts for their residents. This will give the residents a chance to talk to their families more easily, share pictures and so on. Benton County will be helping set up the computer labs and technical support.

Another main focus is the businesses. Benton County is interested in finding out how to use e-commerce and what the helpful websites are. They plan on holding training sessions to get businesses the information they need.

  1. news articles (66 columns presently),
  2. educational handouts (over 2500 distributed  presently), and
  3. classroom training (five different classes offered)

The second goal is to promote and establish an e-commerce environment. An increased exploration and understanding of e-commerce will be gained through four class offerings:

The third goal is to increase web site development in the Five Small Towns. A team of students will work with business owners to develop web sites to promote their product. Presently 13 have signed on to have websites developed. Each of the five small towns will develop a city website, which will provide a link to businesses, a calendar, and basic information regarding their community. A partnership was formed with Northwest Regional Development Commission to work in the development of the city web site,s which will additionally provide a regional link.

Fosston - The City of Fosston is busy preparing for its Technology Fair, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on October 5 at the Fosston Civic Center, located right along Highway 2 in Fosston. With nine workshops and 26 exhibits, and a free gift just for attending, there are plenty of good reasons for participating.

Get Broadband Project Coordinator, Michelle Landsverk, is enthusiastic.  “The response so far has been amazing,” she said.   “The four computers that are being given away are a big part of the excitement. I expect this event to be packed out.”

Exhibits will showcase what businesses are doing with the technology that is available.  Some of the things attendees will see include: how easy it is to live in a rural community and earn a college degree by taking online courses, the ease and security of online banking or the latest satellite technology that is dramatically changing the face of agriculture today.

In addition to the exhibits, there will be three different workshops offered every hour, on the hour, so attendees can pick and choose what is of interest.  There is no need to pre-register for any of the workshops.
